Miya Ando is a descendant of Bizen sword makers and was raised in a Buddhist temple in Japan and in coastal Northern California. She has continued her 16th generation Japanese sword smithing and Buddhist lineage by combining metals, reflectivity and light in her transcendent paintings and sculpture. In 2011 she completed two memorial sculptures for the 9/11 in which she utilized 30 foot tall pieces of steel which had fallen from the World Trade Center Buildings. Ando’s work has been exhibited in galleries throughout Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Paris, Berlin, Austraila and Tokyo. Miya’s public commissions include projects in South Korea, London, New York and California. Her work appears in many important public and private collections and she is the recipient of the Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant in 2012, the Thanatopolis Special Artist Award and Public Outdoor Commission Winner and Puffin Foundation Grant winner. She received her Bachelor of Science Magna Cum Laude in East Asian Studies at UC Berkeley and continued her studies at Yale University, in addition to serving as an apprentice to a master metal smith in Japan. Miya’s twice daily practice of Transcendental Meditation enriches her life and her art.

In the Veins - Rough
Self is but a universal mirror
Showing only what is real by a slight of the finger
Knowing only too well
Where we’ll be as we falter
Well, I never thought you’d stay here too much longer.
Coursing through the vein
One’s breath as the Anchor
to which all of our visions
Created on the brink of the Ether
Coming into fruition
Are you ready to meet your maker?

:) UBUNTU[noun]1) a Southern African ethic or humanist philosophy focusing on people’s allegiances and relations with each other.Ubuntu: “I am what I am because of who we all are.” (From a definition offered by Liberian peace activist Leymah Gbowee.)Archbishop Desmond Tutu offered a definition in a 1999 book: A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, based from a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole and is diminished when others are humiliated or diminished, when others are tortured or oppressed.Tutu further explained Ubuntu in 2008: One of the sayings in our country is Ubuntu – the essence of being human. Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can’t exist as a human being in isolation. It speaks about our interconnectedness. You can’t be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality – Ubuntu – you are known for your generosity. We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole World. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity.2. a computer operating system based on the Debian Linux distribution and distributed as free and open source software, using its own desktop environment. It is named after the Southern African philosophy of Ubuntu (“humanity towards others”).3. a municipality in the Pixley ka Seme District Municipality of the Northern Cape province of South Africa.4. Ubuntu Cola: a soft drink certified by The Fairtrade Foundation. Made with Fairtrade sugar from Malawi and Zambia, Ubuntu Cola is the first UK cola to be Fairtrade certified. It is available for sale in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Ireland, The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Switzerland and online.

"The planet does not need more 'successful people'. The planet desperately needs more peacemakers, healers, restorers, storytellers and lovers of all kinds. It needs people to live well in their places. It needs people with moral courage willing to join the struggle to make the world habitable and humane and these qualities have little to do with success as our culture is the set. "
~H.H.The Dalai Lama
Did you ever have a day
when it all just came apart?
You thought that this will be the end
Did it ever hurt so bad,
so vicious, cruel, or sad
You thought that nothing good could come
That's just the way my story goes
Under the sorrow where the blossom grows
There is a darkness
They never show to me
Yeah, I had it pretty good
Growing up late as I could
I was still running around
Then the lightning struck me down
Hit this lonely apple tree down
Now I've been learning as I go
Just don't lie to your heart
This will be the hardest part
But lying on the surface
Everybody's got a dark place
They hold on to
They all go to
We're learning as we go
We are just learning as we go
when it all just came apart?
You thought that this will be the end
Did it ever hurt so bad,
so vicious, cruel, or sad
You thought that nothing good could come
That's just the way my story goes
Under the sorrow where the blossom grows
There is a darkness
They never show to me
Yeah, I had it pretty good
Growing up late as I could
I was still running around
Then the lightning struck me down
Hit this lonely apple tree down
Now I've been learning as I go
Just don't lie to your heart
This will be the hardest part
But lying on the surface
Everybody's got a dark place
They hold on to
They all go to
We're learning as we go
We are just learning as we go

Security cameras around the world
Security camera clips that make the news usually show bad things, but Coke decided to “look at the world a little differently” in this heartwarming viral video. They found security camera footage from around the world showing happy moments: people stealing kisses instead of possessions, dealing potato chips instead of drugs, and offering car assistance rather than road rage.
Other people don’t realize how beautiful this world is. Because of all the negative news they hear about it. But if we’ll take a little time to look at all these beautiful things that this life has to offer, I think the world will be a better place to live in.

You are the voice of reason that I can't escape
Cut me down a thousand times a day
I don't need you anymore
I trusted you and there was no one else
All you did was make me doubt myself
Don't believe you anymore
You bled me out
You tore me down
Your time has come
You can go
'Cause you're a liar
All my faith's been wasted, wasted
I don't need you to save me anymore
I'm fragile, but I'm not a fool
I won't hear another word from you
You won't hurt me anymore
The hand I held just held me down
It took so long, now I know
'Cause you're a liar, liar
I won't sit here and take this anymore
You can say anything that you wanna say
But my attention's long gone and turned away
You're such a lie
You were only the enemy
Everything you are, I will deny
I'll just come out and say it, say it
'Cause you're a liar, liar
Lie!
'Cause you're a liar, liar
Lie!
All my faith's been wasted, wasted
I don't need you to save me anymore

Allow me to believe you are the real me
I see you breathing under water
See you on both sides of a door
I didn't mean you to fathom what you bought
I'm away and anywhere to suffice
Every life filled with what will be
If my own will is from me
How do I take another mirror
How do I drink the whole shore
I do greet you
And slam the door in your face
You come in anyways
It's a long, long time before this takes place
I answer these these questions now
As to why I'm the only one
Who carries answers to their fathers
Who carries grey sky to the sun
I'm not the railway
I leave all of it to the air
Passing highway's traffic just lying there
Carry me away
Come in anyways
Both sides of the door
The closed and open door

We gaze with perplexity at the highest part of the spiral of force that governs the Universe.
And we call it God.
We could give it any other name: Abyss, Mystery, Absolute Darkness,
Total Light, Matter, Spirit, Supreme Hope, Supreme Despair, Silence.
But we call it God, because only this name – for some mysterious reason – is capable of making our heart tremble with vigor.
And let there be no doubt that this trembling is absolutely
indispensable for us to be in contact with the basic emotions of the
human being.
